Plain rules for local software, optional relay access, usage credits, and API-key service fees.
Eligibility
Local-only use is available to all ages. An account, model relay, bring-your-own-key connection, or commerce feature requires age 13 or older. A user under the age of legal majority represents that a parent or legal guardian permits the use.
Local Software
No Rookies is provided for lawful chess play, analysis, import, replay, and export. Users remain responsible for their devices, browsers, chosen files, network access, and compliance with tournament, platform, employer, or school rules.
Saved Matches And Resuming Play
No Rookies retains up to 100 saved matches in the current browser or app storage. When the limit is exceeded, the oldest saved matches are removed. Clearing that storage also removes local saved matches. Export records you want to keep independently.
You can load a saved match directly and resume from its last saved board. Starting from an earlier position is not supported. Resuming preserves the original saved record and starts a continuation with new usage totals. API-key play requires a valid provider connection and any applicable payment authorization. Loading or replaying a saved match does not repeat its previous billable requests.
Model Relay
The relay is optional and may be unavailable, rate limited, suspended, or changed for security, abuse prevention, maintenance, provider availability, or legal reasons. Model output is not guaranteed to be legal, accurate, available, or strategically useful. The local chess authority rejects invalid moves.
Accounts And Security
Users must protect authentication credentials and promptly report suspected compromise. Automated abuse, credential sharing, bypassing limits, interfering with other users, probing secrets, and unlawful or harmful use are prohibited.
Payments And Credits
A non-renewing $5.99 purchase provides 5,000,000 non-expiring relay microcredits. Managed-provider requests consume estimated provider cost, calculated from provider-reported token usage and the versioned price table, plus a 20.5% managed-relay service fee. This is not provider-invoice reconciliation. Bring-your-own-key requests consume no No Rookies relay credits because the provider charges the user's API account directly. A separate one-time $79 purchase provides an account-bound, non-transferable lifetime waiver of the No Rookies service fee; provider cost remains payable. The pack is prepaid balance, not a complete-match estimate or guarantee. Previously issued $10 lots retain their original 10,000,000-microcredit terms. Paid web checkout is available worldwide where Stripe supports the transaction and applicable law permits it, excluding prohibited jurisdictions and restricted persons. Stripe hosts card checkout and requires a billing address for automatic tax calculation. Taxes are calculated and collected only where the publisher has an applicable active registration. Credits are service units, not money, cryptocurrency, a deposit, or transferable stored value.
API-Key Service Fees
The No Rookies service fee is 20.5% of estimated provider cost. The fee for each request is rounded down to whole USD micro-units. An active account-bound owner or lifetime fee-waiver license removes the No Rookies service fee on both managed-provider and API-key requests; provider charges remain payable. Local Ollama usage has no No Rookies fee.
When API-key fee billing is enabled, new requests require your explicit acceptance of these daily collection terms. An existing verified saved payment method may be reused after explicit authorization; otherwise payment-method setup is required. Your provider bills its usage separately; No Rookies collects only its service fee. Provider-reported billable attempts count even when they do not produce a valid chess move. Failures without provider usage incur no service fee. The authorization applies only to newly admitted requests after consent. Earlier zero-fee requests remain zero.
Service fees accumulate as usage is recorded. Eligible fees are collected at most once per day. Collection works while the app is closed. Below-$0.50 balances carry forward; the $1 unpaid-fee limit and existing obligations remain.
Actual fees below the processor's $0.50 USD minimum carry forward. Collections are floored to whole cents and never increased to the minimum. New requests pause before outstanding fees, unsettled events, reservations and the next estimated fee would exceed $1.00; this does not trigger an early collection. Canceling blocks new fee-bearing requests. Already-admitted usage may still settle, and incurred fees remain due.
Previous-policy records retain their original rates and collection conditions. Accepting the daily policy does not close an old match or billing period, add fees to earlier zero-fee requests, or rewrite existing authorizations. A fee accrual is separate from processor collection, settlement, and payout.
Refunds And Disputes
Refund requests should be sent within 30 calendar days. Unused purchased credits qualify for a full refund to the original payment method. Partly used purchases qualify for a refund of the unused portion when the processor supports it; processor refunds use whole cents and any sub-cent credit remainder stays usable. Duplicate or unauthorized charges and verified accounting defects are corrected regardless of ordinary usage status. Consumed credits are otherwise non-refundable. A full refund or reversal of the $79 waiver revokes that paid license. A payment dispute may freeze or reverse related unused credits but does not disable local-only functionality. Mandatory consumer rights control wherever they provide greater protection.
Termination And Deletion
Users may stop local use at any time and request relay-account deletion. Access may be suspended for material breach, fraud, security risk, nonpayment, or abuse. Required billing, tax, fraud, dispute, and security records may survive account deletion for their lawful retention period.
Service Changes
DeviantData may change or discontinue network functionality for security, provider, maintenance, legal, or abuse-prevention reasons. Material changes affecting paid use will receive reasonable notice when practicable. Purchased general-purpose credits and the lifetime waiver do not expire merely because these terms change.
Disclaimers And Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, No Rookies and its optional network services are provided “as is” and “as available,” without an implied promise of uninterrupted availability, model accuracy, or a particular chess result. DeviantData is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages. Aggregate liability arising from No Rookies will not exceed the greater of $100 or the amount paid for No Rookies during the preceding 12 months. These limits do not apply where prohibited, including applicable liability for fraud, willful misconduct, gross negligence, personal injury, or non-waivable consumer rights.
Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, a user is responsible for third-party claims caused by that user's unlawful use or material breach of these terms, excluding claims caused by DeviantData's negligence or misconduct.
Governing Law And Disputes
California law governs these terms, excluding conflict-of-law rules. Courts with jurisdiction in Los Angeles County, California may hear a dispute, including an eligible small-claims case. A consumer may also use any forum or protection that applicable non-waivable law requires. Before filing, the parties should attempt good-faith resolution through the contact below without delaying a limitation period.
